Internal: Arrows represent direction and ambition. Drawn aggressively, they represent a desire for action. Drawn in careful outline, they indicate a desire for progression or advancement, especially if pointing upwards. Arrows traditionally have masculine associations. Drawn with a heart, it becomes cupid's arrow.
External: Arrows might be inspired by motifs in Western or fantasy movies, Robin Hood, an experience of following arrow-marked paths (or even a love of archery!)
...
Arrows:
These represent direction in life and ambition but there are different kinds of arrows that may reveal different needs. Broken arrows show worry over broken, or lost relationships (or the fear of it). Arrows with hearts show a true romantic and arrows pointing at other objects show a deep sense of frustration and irritation. If you draw arrows going through a person you are clearly not very pleased with them, or what they are doing.
